Sometimes You Have to Step Back to Move Forward
So many people have asked me lately, “I don’t understand the inspirational and reflective posts you put out. I thought your brand sold barbecue sauce?”
And I always remind them — we’re more than sauces and spices. Uncle Clarence BBQ has always been about people, community, and purpose. Everything I’ve gone through — the struggles, the blessings, the lessons — can help someone else. So if I can use my platform to help another person grow, then that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
Because in a world filled with negativity, people need hope. We need conversations that lift us, not tear us down.
Our products bring people together at the table… but these stories spark the conversations that bring people closer. I’m not asking you to like or agree with every idea I share — I’m asking you to talk about them. To reflect. To share. To start conversations with your family, friends, and community.
Because that’s how we grow — together. So as you read this, if it touches you, share it. Comment. Join the conversation. Pass it on to someone who might need it. This is bigger than posts. This is bigger than barbecue. This is about elevating the room and building a movement rooted in faith, community, and purpose.
The Story
Sometimes stepping back isn’t falling backward — it’s building momentum.
We all hit roadblocks in life. Moments where it feels like we have nothing left to give, nowhere left to go, and no strength left to push forward.
Most people think the answer is to walk around the obstacle. Take a different path. Try a shortcut. Look for an escape — or just give up.
But the truth is — not every obstacle is meant to be avoided. Some are meant to strengthen you.
And sometimes the right move isn’t sideways. Sometimes the right move is backward.
Not because you’re losing ground. Not because you’re failing. But because stepping back lets you gather your strength and create the kind of momentum that works like gravity — a force that builds behind you, pulls you forward, and prepares you for the kind of push that breaks through what once felt impossible.
Life isn’t a straight line. Sometimes you have to shift into reverse for a moment just to power yourself forward.
So when you hit that roadblock — when you feel stuck, tired, or worn down — don’t quit. Step back. Breathe. Regroup. Realign. Create your energy. Create your momentum. Then push forward with everything you’ve learned.
Every struggle you’ve survived prepared you for this moment. Every mistake you made taught you how to climb. Every setback gave you the strength to lift what once felt impossible.
Your world is about to open into something new… if you just hold on long enough to push through.
